Ankie Hamaekers is a consultant anesthesiologist at Maastricht University Medical Centre in the Netherlands. She works as all-round anesthesiologist, but has a special interest in anesthesia for head-neck oncology and thoracic surgery. Dr. Hamaekers combines clinical work with teaching and research. She is course director, instructor and guest faculty for several national and international airway management courses and serves on medical advisory and executive boards. Currently she is attempting to finalize her PhD thesis on a new ventilation technique called EVA (Expiratory Ventilation Assistance), which can be used for rescue ventilation through narrow-bore cannula. She is (co-)author of several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in the field of airway management. Although all the above can be quite time-consuming, she makes sure that there is enough time to enjoy her family and to dance the life…….
