Dr Nicholas Chrimes MBBS(Hons) FANZCA is a consultant anaesthetist in both public and private practice in Melbourne, Australia. He has clinical interests in obstetric, bariatric and neurosurgical anaesthesia. He has extensive experience in healthcare education and simulation having previously been head of education for both Monash Simulation and the Monash Health Medical Education Unit. He is currently an instructor at Monash Simulation and a visiting instructor at the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre. He has particular interests in patient safety, teamwork behaviours, human factors, airway management and simplifying clinical decision making in emergency situations. Dr Chrimes is the creator of the Vortex Approach to airway management and the Triad Approach to crisis management. He is an instructor on the Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises (EMAC) course in Australia, which must be completed by all trainees to qualify for fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, as well as a co-author of its airway module. He has authored a number of peer reviewed journal publications, and presents at international meetings on the topics of human factors, airway and crisis management, as well as instructing on airway and simulation workshops.
